NCHV Announces Second
Teleconference for New HVRP Applicants Due to overwhelming response, the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV) has added a second, identical call for new applicants seeking an introduction to the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP), the only federal program that focuses exclusively on the employment of veterans who are homeless. This teleconference, titled “HVRP Program and Application: New Applicants,” will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at 3 p.m. EDT, and will focus on the objectives of HVRP, critical components of successful programs, and application requirements. HVRP funds will be awarded by the Department of Labor on a competitive basis to state and local workforce investment boards; local public agencies; and nonprofit organizations, including faith- and community-based organizations. Applications are due 30 days from the date of publication in grants.gov, which was June 9, 2011. Anniversary Stakeholder Conference Call The U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) will hold a stakeholder conference call on June 22, 2011, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. EDT, to mark the one-year anniversary of the release of Opening Doors: Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness, the first-ever comprehensive federal plan of its type. Since the release of Opening Doors, USICH and its federal partners have been working on the plan's implementation. Unprecedented collaboration has occurred throughout all levels of government, as well as with private, nonprofit and faith-based organizations. During this stakeholder call, Special Assistant to the President for Urban Affairs Derek Douglas, USICH Executive Director Barbara Poppe, and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis will discuss the roles the federal government and administration have played over the plan's first year. Key leaders will share their thoughts on what is needed as we move forward into year two of implementation. Questions may submitted and will be answered by USICH at the end of this call. Trust Fund The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) will host a
webinar on Thursday, June 30, at 3 p.m. EDT on the
National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF). During this webinar, NLIHC President
and CEO Sheila Crowley will explain the options and prospects for NHTF
funding, outline the development of Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) regulations, and highlight steps that advocates can take
to make a positive impact on the NHTF. The Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (DCoE) has released the Co-occurring Conditions Toolkit Training Video, a companion educational tool to help providers learn how to use the Co-occurring Conditions Toolkit: Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Psychological Health. The Co-occurring Conditions Toolkit is a comprehensive clinical guidance tool to help primary care providers assess and manage patients with co-occurring mild TBI and psychological health disorders. DCoE partnered with the U.S. Army to develop the companion video to provide an overview of mild TBI and co-occurring conditions, as well as to offer detailed instructions on how to apply the toolkit to clinical practice.
