Rooster Rundown Gives Progress Update on Zero:2016 Communities’ Progress

Community Solutions recently released the June 2015 Rooster Rundown, a progress report on the organization's Zero:2016 campaign. Zero:2016 is a joint effort led by Community Solutions that aims to end veteran homelessness by the end of 2015 and chronic homelessness by the end of 2016 in 75 communities across the country. These communities are supported through optimizing local resources, tracking progress against monthly housing goals, and accelerating the spread of proven strategies.

The June 2015 Rooster Rundown, which marks six months left until the end of 2015 - the deadline goal for ending veteran homelessness, includes national and local results and statistics. Some takeaways from the national level:

  • 22 communities are meeting or exceeding their monthly housing placement targets for homeless veterans and are on track to end veteran homelessness by Dec. 31, 2015
  • New Orleans is sustaining zero homeless veterans after announcing the city had ended homelessness among veterans in January of this year!
  • 41 communities are in the "improvement track," or not yet meeting their monthly housing placement targets for chronically homeless individuals and/or veterans but are committed to improving in order to be on track to end veteran homelessness by Dec. 31, 2015
  • Of the 41 communities in the improvement track, 13 are at or above 70% of their housing placement goals for each month
  • The remaining 12 communities participating in the campaign are making efforts to improve their data process to provide an accurate picture of their progress

Efforts like the Zero:2016 campaign, or the Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness (has your Mayor signed on?) are helping communities across the country get focused to find ways to work together across the board to set concrete, trackable goals and get real results. This type of urgent collaboration and innovation is how we are ending veteran homelessness in America! View the latest national, regional, and local results from the Zero:2016 campaign here
