HPRP: Opportunities for Systems Transformation and Sustainability

Posted: 4/22/2009

On April 16, over 450 people joined the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) audio conference, "Using HPRP to Transform Your Homelessness System," which was co-hosted by the National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) and the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty (NLCHP). Presentations by Stave Berg and Norm Suchar of the Alliance and Laurel Weir of NLCHP defined "systems transformation" and "sustainability," provided steps for using HPRP to create a more effective homelessness assistance system, and examined strategies for sustaining programs beyond the three years of HPRP funding. Marge Wherley, Supervisor of Housing and Homeless Initiatives for Hennepin County, Minnesota, closed with a description of how Hennepin County addressed its family homelessness crisis several years ago by shifting to a homeless assistance system focused on homelessness prevention and housing stability.

The Alliance has released "HPRP: Opportunities for Systems Transformation and Sustainability," the paper on which the audio conference was based. The paper and audio conference recording can be found on the Alliance's HPRP website.
