NCHV Announces Leadership Change

The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans Chairman of the Board of Directors George Basher announced today the appointment of John Driscoll as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the organization, succeeding Cheryl Beversdorf, who has served in that capacity for the past four years.

Driscoll, 58, has served most recently as the Vice President for Operations and Programs for NCHV and has been with the agency for eight years. He is a Vietnam combat veteran with extensive background in Homeless Veteran programs and associated legislation. Driscoll has spearheaded development of most of the program material used by NCHV's members nationwide to provide transitional housing and other services to homeless veterans.

"John has served NCHV well and as we make this transition I can't think of a more qualified or dedicated individual to assume this role," said Basher. "We are extremely grateful to Cheryl Beversdorf for her leadership over these past few years, and on behalf of the Board, I want to thank her for all she has done to bring NCHV to its current high standing in the national discussion on homelessness."

NCHV has evolved from a membership organization to the nation's leading authority on homeless veterans issues and the programs in place to address them since its founding in 1990. Today, the organization serves as the principal liaison between the nation's community-based veteran service providers, Congress and the Federal Agencies working to end veteran homelessness.

"Cheryl has contributed greatly to NCHV's legacy," Driscoll said. "She has helped strengthen our relationships with our federal partners, and has worked closely with Capitol Hill staff on initiatives that have helped thousands of homeless veterans gain access to services they need. As we move forward, we will continue those critical partnerships to increase the nation's capacity to serve veterans in crisis, while also working to help communities develop strategies to prevent future veteran homelessness."

Beversdorf, a former Army Nurse, is stepping away from her role with NCHV for other pursuits in support and advocacy for veterans, particularly women veterans. "Identifying the needs of women veterans and determining ways to address them are timely issues and I look forward to undertaking that task," said Beversdorf. "I am honored to have had the privilege to be with NCHV and work to end and prevent homelessness among veterans. I know the organization will be in good hands under John Driscoll's leadership"

NCHV is a Washington, D.C.,-based 501(c)(3) organization that serves as the primary liaison between community-based providers serving homeless veterans, Congress, and the executive department agencies charged with helping them succeed in their work.
