George Gund Foundation Supports Urban Organizations
Posted: 8/20/2009
The George Gund Foundation was established in 1952 as a private, nonprofit institution with the sole purpose of contributing to human well-being and the progress of society. Over the years, though its objectives have changed, the Foundation's basic goal of advancing human welfare has remained constant. The urban focus of its contributions, meanwhile, derives from a belief that thriving cities are one of the nation's best hopes for addressing essential problems.
The Foundation makes grants in the following areas: arts, economic development and community revitalization, education, environment, human services and special projects. Special attention is paid to organizations in Greater Cleveland, but all urban areas are considered. Proposals are accepted quarterly – the next deadline is December 15.
In addition to providing an organizational background, a project description and budget, and other supporting documents, applicants must also describe how their organization is climate conscious.
