After receiving generous support from the MetLife Foundation, Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) launched the Allies for Employment Initiative in January 2008. Established as a re-granting and technical assistance program to create and enhance partnerships between supportive housing providers and mainstream workforce systems, the ultimate goal of the Initiative was to increase employment opportunities for formerly homeless individuals. CSH awarded five Allies for Employment Planning Grants in diverse communities across the country: Bridgeport, Connecticut; Dayton, Ohio; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Portland, Oregon; and San Francisco, California. These grants supported planning activities designed to increase access to the workforce system for tenants of supportive housing through improved cross-agency coordination, service enhancements, employer outreach and tailoring approaches to serving formerly-homeless individuals in the mainstream workforce system.
The Allies for Employment Summary Report documents the progress and planned next steps for each of the five collaborative projects that received an Allies for Employment Planning Grant. The Report also highlights important lessons that organizations and communities across the country can learn from the grantees' partnerships, activities and plans. Detailed profiles of each of the Allies for Employment projects are included, providing descriptions of the innovative strategies that Allies for Employment grantees pursued and continue to implement.
