NAEH Releases Video Fact Sheet on Homelessness
Posted: 10/7/2009
The National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) has released its first “video fact sheet” on homelessness titled “Understanding the Data.” The video features M William Sermons, director of the Homelessness Research Institute, and tackles one of the most frequently fielded questions at NAEH: How many homeless people are there?
The video fact sheet cites data from a point-in-time U.S. census conducted in January 2007, stating 671,859 people – or 22 of every 10,000 citizens – are homeless on any given night. That data is then broken down by sheltered status, family composition, the percentage of chronically homeless people, and more.
“Understanding the Data” also considers the origins and annual development of available homelessness data.
