CRS Report Looks at Nonprofit, Charitable Sector
Posted: 12/22/2009
The Congressional Research Service (CRS) has released a report, “An Overview of the Nonprofit and Charitable Sector,” that seeks to illuminate this significant sector of the economy; charitable and nonprofit organizations, combined, employ about 17 percent of the U.S. workforce. The report works on the premise that “having a greater understanding of the nonprofit and charitable sector as a whole may help policymakers evaluate proposals that may impact the sector.”
Among other things, the CRS report examines the charitable sector’s relationship with government as well as how charities are funded. Policy considerations are also presented – particularly, policy options considered most important by charitable organizations themselves.
