HUD Awards $1.4 Billion in Homeless Grants
Posted: 1/7/2010
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently renewed grant funding needed to keep thousands of local homeless assistance programs operating. HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan said a total of nearly $1.4 billion will help an unprecedented 6,445 programs continue to offer critically needed housing and services to homeless individuals and families.
The grants announced on Dec. 23, 2009, are being awarded through HUD’s Continuum of Care (CoC) programs. For the first time ever, HUD is quickly providing renewal grants to local programs to prevent any interruption in federal assistance and will announce funding to new projects in early 2010.
HUD’s fiscal year 2009 CoC grants awards can be viewed by state and by continuum, or community, here. Each state’s award report lists the organizations from each continuum that will be assisted.
