The National Alliance to End Homelessness has released a new handbook, “Housing First for Families,” which summarizes strategies and models for implementing a housing first approach. It includes information about program designs, staffing models, working with landlords, outcomes, financial assistance, and funding sources. The housing first approach helps families move into permanent housing as quickly as possible and provides case management and other stabilizing support services. The handbook cites many examples of how communities came to adopt this approach. The document also includes summaries of a variety of existing housing first programs that serve homeless families across the country. It was produced by LaFrance Associates, with support from the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation.
