Homeless Court: Helping to Remove Veterans' Barriers to Employment
National Coalition of Homeless Veterans

"Homeless Court" helps service providers institute the Homeless Court Program (HCP) – a collaboration between the court and homeless shelters and service agencies in which clients' participation in program activities is recognized as "payment" for mostly minor offenses – in their communities. In the manual, Steve Binder, founder of the nation’s first Homeless Court, provides a step-by-step strategy for implementation and relates some of his experiences with the program.

The 36-page manual features a list of legal resources, sample HCP materials, and information on the American Bar Association’s Homeless Court policy and its Commission on Homelessness & Poverty.

Planning for Your Release: A Guide for Incarcerated Veterans
National Coalition of Homeless Veterans

"Planning for Your Release" serves as a tool for corrections, social services and federal agency personnel who are helping incarcerated veterans prepare for their release from correctional facilities. A wealth of contact information is provided – including a list of current and recent President’s Prisoner Re-entry Initiative grantees – as well as tips on letter-writing, filling out forms, and a timeline for when certain actions should be taken prior to release.

Veterans can learn how to apply for VA benefits, where to look for affordable housing, how to find employment training programs and job placement assistance, where to obtain medical and mental health services, and who is available to provide counseling and other assistance in their communities.
