NCHV Hosts Training on VRAP and HVRP

On Feb. 12, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. EST, NCHV’s TA Center hosted “Veterans Retraining Assistance Program for Veterans Served by the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program,” a webinar training on the intersection between the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP) and the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP).

Representatives of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Labor- Employment and Training Administration (ETA) and Department of Labor- Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) provided an overview of VRAP resources, eligibility, and application process. The training featured first-hand accounts of how the programs work together by several HVRP grantees. All HVRP grantees are strongly encouraged to review this training to obtain critical resources and information on VRAP and how it impacts their programs.

Successful HVRP grantees obtain consistently high placement and retention rates by connecting homeless veteran participants to training and employment opportunities that lead to long-term employment and career success. VRAP, a collaborative partnership between the VA and DOL, aims to provide training assistance for up to 90,000 eligible unemployed veterans. When veterans are eligible for both programs, HVRP grantees can serve as a conduit for maximizing available training resources and supporting informed choice for veterans enrolled in HVRP.
