The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to distribute $200 million in new funding to all SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran Families) grantees with recurring awards. This plan will boost all renewable grants by just over 50%. New funding is intended to expand housing capacity in order to protect homeless veterans from the threat of the coronavirus. The funds will be distributed in the coming weeks.  VA has urged grantees to use their existing grant funds to work with hotel/motels to expand capacity now in order to fill the urgent and immediate need for emergency housing.
It is undisputed that veterans experiencing or at-risk of homelessness are at increased risk of contracting COVID-19. Funding for more capacity is welcome news for providers struggling to house high-risk veterans during the pandemic.
Along with the funds, The Department of Veterans Affairs has also provided new guidance and support documents to help programs best serve veterans during the pandemic. You can read more below
