NCHV Remembers Former Board Member Stephani Hardy

It is with deep sadness that the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans shares the news of the passing of Stephani Layne Hardy on September 9, 2025.

Stephani was a tireless advocate for veterans and a longtime friend of NCHV. She served on our Board of Directors and played a pivotal role in advancing national efforts to end veteran homelessness. Her leadership extended far beyond NCHV—through her work with U.S. VETS, where she helped build programs and partnerships that continue to impact thousands of veterans across the country.

Stephani’s service to NCHV was rooted in both her compassion and her partnership with her husband, Tim Cantwell, a former NCHV board member whose leadership was instrumental in sustaining this organization in its earliest years. Together, Tim and Stephani embodied the spirit of commitment, generosity, and vision that has shaped NCHV since its founding.

Stephani will be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to service. Her legacy lives on in the countless veterans and families whose lives were strengthened because of her work.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Triumph Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi. A second service will be held at the Cantwell family home in Altadena, California, on November 8, 2025, where Tim and Stephani were married.

On behalf of the NCHV community, we extend our deepest condolences to Tim, their family, and all who loved Stephani.
