Donors respond to challenge to support Veterans employment training at CPCC and Charlotte Bridge Home
May 25, 2012
Leaders from the Veterans Employment Initiative in Charlotte announced they met their goal of raising at least $1 million in private donations to provide education, training and support for Veterans in the Charlotte region. Funds raised will be directed toward employment training efforts at Central Piedmont Community College’s Veterans Resources Center and to a new non-profit serving veterans in the Charlotte region – Charlotte Bridge Home.
The Veterans Employment Initiative was launched in February of this year under the leadership of Wells Fargo and Goodrich Corporation. Wells Fargo and Goodrich challenged donors from across the region to help them raise $1 million by Memorial Day to help Veterans transition to civilian employment.
Numerous individual donors and corporate funders answered the call to support this fundraising effort, including: USAirways, Balfour-Beatty, Microsoft, General Dynamics, Duke Energy, Carolinas Healthcare, Presbyterian, Piedmont Natural Gas, Wells Fargo and Goodrich.
In addition to supporting CPCC and Charlotte Bridge Home, donors contributing to the Charlotte Veterans Employment Initiative will have the opportunity to participate in a series of employer roundtables. These sessions will focus on veterans employment needs and provide a convenient and effective platform for sharing best practices in veteran recruitment and retention.
