The VA National Center on Homelessness Among Veterans is hosting the webinar, Ethics in Serving Homeless Veterans, on Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. ET. This webinar will provide a synopsis of the ethical theories and principles that support harm reduction strategies as well as review the ethical criticisms of these approaches. The concept of boundaries in health care will be introduced, and the purposes of boundaries and the difference between crossing and boundary violations explained. The need to modify boundaries in rural areas and small communities, as well as, in harm reduction programs will be discussed. Finally, an ethical decisions making model will be presented and applied to case scenarios, in which there is an ethical conflict between respect for patient autonomy and the safety of the individual and others.
